Introduction:
The Netherlands is currently one of the very few countries in Europe where genuine Fiber-to-the- Home is installed at a serious scale alongside Fiber-to-the-Building and Fiber-to-the-Curb. In comparison with our December 2006 overview, the number of households connected in the first quarter of 2008 has grown from 113 thousand to 176 thousand, an increase of 55%.
Due to fierce competition from in particular cable operators, few FTTH-providers publicly release their current number of subscribers. Nevertheless, Stratix Consulting has been able to reveal actual numbers for several projects using press and other public sources. From these data we can state with confidence that the number of active subscribers has grown at least from 76 thousand at year-end 2006 to 94 thousand in the first quarter of 2008.
